Coaching Program for the Finance Director of an Insurance Company

Our client is in his mid-fifties and finance director of a large German insurance company. After a merger with a Swiss company he finds himself on the board of an international concern that is jointly led by Swiss and Germans.

Chemistry Meeting

At the first meeting with our senior coaches he informed them: “In my sphere the air is thin. I have no trust in my new colleagues. I feel as if the merger has pulled the ground out from under me. The maneuvering and intriguing over position is endless, and wears out my reserves.” More and more he feels like a victim of constantly changing circumstances rather than an actor in his own right.

Our client, in his new position, hasn’t got the power he is accustomed to. Also, his family life suffers from the constant tension. His wife complains that he is absent even when he is home.

Relationship Management

Together with his coach our client subjects the different areas of his life to a thorough analysis. After a 360-degree feedback he has precise information about how he is seen in his sphere and what he must work on. A detailed work plan with milestones helps him to change his perspective and win back his ability to act with confidence. He learns how to employ his available reserves effectively. Role plays help him to examine and change his old communication patterns. After several months of coaching he sees clear results in his contacts with other board members and co-workers. His private life improves because he is more relaxed and easy-going.

At the end of six months, our client feels powerful and secure enough to give up regular meetings with his coach. He agrees with his coach to hold a quarterly checkup to make sure he stays on the ball.
